Andy Tsege, who is the secretary-general of a banned Ethiopian opposition movement.

He came to London in 1979 as apolitical refugee, however in Ethiopia he is regarded as being part of a terror organisation.

Mr Tsege was travelling from Dubai to Eritrea last June when he disappeared during a stopover in Yemen.

Campaigners in his political party are calling it a politically motivated kidnapping as part of a ‘crackdown’ on political opponents and civil rights activists.

He has now been located, in detention in Ethiopia, where he faces the death sentence.

Although he is known to be in detention, the physical location in Ethiopia is still unknown.

Jeremy Corbyn, Mr Tsege’s constituency MP,  aimed to visit Ethiopia in a bid to try and secure his release. However, the trip was called short after a meeting with Ethiopian ambassador in London last week who said access would be denied.

Mr Corbyn told The Independent: “We had made plans to go and see him next weekend and they said we would be refused admission to the detention facility.”

A spokesman for the Ethiopian embassy said: “The ambassador advised the parliamentarians that there was no need for them to go to Ethiopia as the case is being properly handled by the courts.”

Yemi Hailemariam, Mr Tsege’s partner and mother of their three children, joined Wake Up London to explain the current situation.
